• I upgraded from 2.5.1 to 2.9.2 in hopes to fix the sudden, inexplicable inability to upload an image. This did not resolve the problem. I have searched the forum endlessly, done the standard response from moderators (deactivate plugins, reactivate one at at time, increase memory, etc). There doesn’t seem to be a solution and others seem to be frustrated with this as well.

    Here’s my original post:

I can edit my photos once uploaded (they are in the uploads folder on the FTP) but the thumbnail does not exist and only a photo icon is visible when inserted into the post.

If anyone has been able to fix this, please post your step by step solution, as I’m still figuring out the code and where this function is located within the wp files.

    Many thanks in advance!

  • I also have this issue. The image loads without a problem, but is not visible as a thumbnail and also not when placed in a post. When I go into the media gallery and click on edit image, the image is then visible but the thumbnail still doesn’t appear.

When I check the link for the image I get an error message “Access denied” which I do not get when checking the url links for other images in the media library although there is no significant difference in the url’s at all.

This is a brand new issue. The blog has been up for several months and I’ve never had such a problem before. I need to resolve this urgently. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Jackie,

I just wanted to let you know that I figured this out. After all the previous forum discussion re setting permissions, I figured it might have something to do with that and because the trouble seemed to be coincide with a prompt that I received from my ISP regarding beefing up security. I didn’t put the two together at the time. Honestly, I don’t know what my permissions are set to, but I hit a “reset permissions” button on my FTP through my Internet Service Provider. I called them first to make sure. I felt comfortable that if it didn’t work, I had a backup just in case.

Here are the links that I used for reference:

Good luck. I hope this works for you.
