One web site, two WordPress accounts

  • I have a web site that I manage with WordPress, hosted by Bluehost. After five years with the same look to the site, I decided to purchase a new theme. I also downloaded the latest version of WordPress. Somehow, I managed to create a second WordPress account. Now, the pages for my web site are on one WordPress account, and the theme I bought yesterday is on the other account. It appears that both accounts are connected to my web site; however, I can’t get the existing content of my pages to populate in the new theme. Each account shows a different version of the new theme, too. What can I do to resolve this issue? Thanks.

  • Just a few clarification questions…

    Are you still able to access the older instance of wordpress? Or did it overwrite it?

    Do you have FTP access and know how to use it? If you do, you should be able to take the new theme from the “wp-content” directory of the new wordpress instance, and move it to the old wordpress instance.
    Before messing with anything, if you FTP into the site, make sure to create a backup…that way you don’t accidentally delete the purchased theme.

    I’m afraid I’m a novice with all of this. I’d like to learn to do this for myself, but have limited time to give it and (frankly) limited aptitude when it comes to these kinds of matters. What would you recommend for someone who needs help so that he doesn’t accidentally make things worse?

    If time and aptitude is limited, then it may be best to contact the support of your hosting provider. They will most likely have the power resources to move the necessary directories without you needing to hire in or do it yourself. Knowing product support for most hosting providers, this would probably span over a day or two until they successfully get you back on track.

    I think I’ll try that. I wanted to explore first if there was an option I could do myself. Thanks for your responses.

    You write command: define (‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false);

    You give it to the line in wp-config.php file, then press F5 to admin a few times for it to clear your cache, try editor to see if there was not okay!
