• EDIT:

I have just uprated this review to 5 stars, from 3. The support received from the support team has been exemplary. I’m happy to report that the team went to some trouble to rectify this issue and I can’t praise them enough. Please read the whole thread for details.

I’m annoyed. I’ve spent a week creating groups and populating them, creating 3 different registration forms and testing them. All was working well, apart from the documentation being somewhat poor (-1 star*) until I came to set up the Profile Pages. There’s a choice of templates (although they all lack imagination and are very samey) but – and this is a big but – you can only choose one Profile Page template regardless of how many groups you set up. This makes the plugin totally pointless (-2 stars**). What is the point of having separate user groups (with different requirements) and directing everyone to the same page structure? My site caters for both suppliers and customers – they do not want the same profile page.

Different user groups exists because different users need different features. I’m truly sorry because I thought this plug in would resolve my user group issues but sadly, it fails.

*Don’t let your programmers write the user instructions. Employ a trainer to do it. With over 30 years experience of writing technical training courses, specifically for various software packages I can recognise the difference between in-house documentation and a properly structured training course. Trainers include examples and make no assumptions as to the knowledge of the reader/learner. Non-trained documentation writers make assumptions and provide poor examples.

** Actually, if the plugin is pointless, it should receive no stars, but ProfileGrid does have some good features. In fact, I have been impressed by many aspects; the ease at which registration pages can be created (although the default ‘dark’ theme is almost impossible to see and needs additional CSS to force it to use your theme’s colours – and even then not all aspects become visible), the profile templates are OK as long as you only need the one, and I have found the Support Team to be reasonably quick to answer questions, so I give you a star for each of those.

As of now, I’m looking to delete ProfileGrid. I need something exactly like it, but with the obvious requirement of different profile pages for different users, the ability of the plugin to work with my theme, and the ability to fully edit the in-built templates.

    Hello @johnslack

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We understand your frustration regarding the limitation of using a single profile page template across multiple user groups. The good news is that our team has heard this feedback, and we are currently working on adding the ability to assign different profile page templates for different groups in an upcoming release. This update will make it easier for sites like yours that cater to varied user needs, such as suppliers and customers.

Additionally, we recognize the importance of clear, structured documentation. While reworking the documentation is a larger project that will take some time, we’re already in the process of improving it. We appreciate your suggestions on this front, and it’s something we’re taking seriously.

We’re grateful for your positive remarks about the registration page setup, our support team, and the overall feature set of ProfileGrid. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve. We hope you’ll give us a chance to deliver these updates, and we’re confident they’ll meet your expectations.

Thank you again for your review, and please feel free to reach out if you have any further suggestions or concerns.

Many thanks for your quick response. I was a little unfair, I think; ProfileGrid is NOT pointless. It does what it does very well (with caveats). But I now have a dilemma – do I want to remove ProfileGrid and replace it with something else, or can I afford to wait for an update and put the project on hold? Sadly the answer to both of those is ‘No’.

    Hi @johnslack,

Again, we completely understand that the feature is vital for your use case, and that it is also a quick requirement due to time constraints. What we can offer you is to further escalate the development and roll out the new version within next 2-3 days. I will hope that can work.

Wow. That would be so awesome; I’m certain it would be a very popular feature for many of your existing users and would help convince new ones. As for an urgent escalation, that is support above and beyond. Do this, and I’ll praise you on every platform I can.
