One Field Causing a Mysterious Filtering Problem

I have a large list of members, and it is configured to be filterable by four different criteria. One field – Gender – makes the whole page freeze when I try to use it. The dropdown will not close if you select one of the options or if you click anywhere else on the page. The only way to fix it is to use the browser’s refresh button. It seems to be a theme conflict (I switched themes and it works fine), but I don’t understand why it’s just this one field giving me trouble. It doesn’t matter in which order the fields or filtering options are listed; it’s always this one field. It doesn’t matter which browser I use.
One difference between this meta data and the rest of the meta data is that this one is a radio button in the registration form, whereas the others are dropdown or multi-select. Not sure if that makes a difference?
