“One date displayed for all posts on the same day” Plugin?

I want to display the articles on my home page by day, so the display would look like this…

March 15th
Third article that was posted on March 15th
Second article that was posted on March 15th
First article that was posted on March 15th

March 14th
Second article that was posted on March 14th
First article that was posted on March 14th

Instead of the standard “each article tagged with a date” setup. Is there a way to only display the date once for multiple articles posted on the same day? Would I need to accomplish this in the template or is there a plugin?
