• Something very strange keeps happening. Every time I get a WordPress upgrade notifcation for, the site breaks and only upgrading WordPress fixes it. I can’t seem to figure this out. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to why? A notification should’t break a website nor should the site simply come back correctly only after a WordPress upgrade.

I’m on WP Engine. Was on php 7.4 a few weeks ago, then reverted to 8.2, which had no issues, but all of a sudden I’m back on 7.4 again and I didn’t change anything. I’ll have to ask WP Engine if they actually revert. I don’t think they do, but I’ll ask.

I’m wondering if it could be Cloudflare or Autoptimize and ASYNC plugins. Hmmm…it’s a mystery.

Would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to provide a screenshot of the notification you’re seeing?

I can’t now. Had to upgrade to fix the site. It was the generic WordPress upgrade notification that we all see when there’s an update.

Could be related to something called “Installatron” which was used maybe to install WordPress in 2019 on another server and is lingering on the WP Engine install. Still looking into it.

That’s possible I suppose. It’s a third-party tool though, so we can’t provide support for it.

Under WordPress as-is, you would only see the notification in your Dashboard. Your site would only then go down for a few seconds between when you clicked the button to update and the update finished.
