    Hi –

On the Server, using FTP, I don’t see any backups from the latest backup (21st Feb)

In Dropbox, I see Plugins, Themes, Uploads, Others, and the db.gz.

Is there a problem with Updraft not obeying the life-time of backups on the server or something?

    I’ve got in settings :-
Files backup schedule: Weekly – and Retain 5 copies
Database backup schedule: Daily – and Retain 30 copies

Bit worried that nothing is being retained on the Server for the specified time / number of copies.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks guys,
    Darren.

    Hi Darren,

Updraftplus will not store backups on your server if you have a remote storage option setup, in this case Dropbox.

In short Updraftplus creates the backups on your server and then uploads them to Dropbox once they are uploaded they are removed from your server, as this is not a very safe palce to store them anyway and also saves storage space on you server.

The retention rules you have setup should keep that amount of copies in your Dropbox storage.

Hope that helps, if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Best Wishes,

Thanks Ashley – understood about the Dropbox side of things.

I think I may have misunderstood the ‘Delete local backup’ in Expert Settings that reads:

“Check this to delete any superfluous backup files from your server after the backup run finishes (i.e. if you uncheck, then any files despatched remotely will also remain locally, and any files being kept locally will not be subject to the retention limits).”

I understood the text in bold (and any files being kept locally will not be subject to the retention limits) to mean that local backups would remain, according to the retention limits set for Files & DB backups > and then be deleted, keeping X number of backup files on the local server also.

So could I leave them on the server if I unchecked ‘Delete Local Backup’ in Expert Settings?

Is there then a way to apply the retention limits of e.g. ’30 DB backups’ to the server files?

    Thanks,
    Darren.

    Hi Darren,

If the ‘Delete local backups’ option is disabled, then the local copies of the file will not be deleted by UpdraftPlus, and must be deleted manually.

There is currently no way to apply the retention limits to those files.

    Roger – thanks DNut,

I kinda feel safer having them on the Server also.

Just in case of any issue retrieving backups from Dropbox.

Belt & Bracers ;-). I’ll set a reminder to delete manually.

    Thanks for the info, appreciated.
    Darren
