Hey all, I am a moderate-user in the experience behind using WordPress, and I am wondering how I can restore some posts from an older WordPress folder back of an older blog from an older version of wordpress?. At the time I thought backing up just the folder was enough to restore it later, but theres more to it. But unfortunately I didn’t know at the time on how to do that, and I don’t know what to do with these old files now, what should I do?. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions!.

  • You will need backup your database to restore your wordpress data and depending what version wordpress you were using.

Alright, but the last time I dragged and dropped my old files into an existing wordpress blog it only forced a whole new blog to start over again, with no content left over. Is there one folder in my old wordpress backup that I can just drag into my current wordpress folder that would make the posts appear?, or is there some sort of utility that will handle all of this?.

The only place your posts, pages and settings are saved is in database. You will not find your data in folders and files unless you have full backup from your host that will have a backup database sql file.

You can ask your host to restore your wordpress from a backup if they have one.

My host backs up everyday and keeps a full backup for 7 days
