    Hi,

I’ve set up sign up forms on my page with instructions to tag anyone in Mailchimp with a certain tag when they submit the form. It’s adding the tag, but deleting any old tags the user may have.

This is not what I want, I want the tag to be added to any pre-existing tags. Please help!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @newedtechclassroom,

For these existing users, are they part of the same Audience/List? Tags are specific to an Audience-Email pair, so it’s possible to have users with one set of tags in one audience and another set in another audience, while both having the same email address.

    Does that help?

    Hi Jon,

I’m not exactly sure what you mean, but yes these existing users are part of the same audience that I’d like to add all users to with the form.

So for example, if someone who is not part of my audience yet signs up through the form, they’d receive “Tag #1” and be added to the audience.

But if someone is already in my audience and has many tags already, when they sign up through this form (to get a specific resource), my goal is not to add them to the audience (because they’re already in it), it’s more to update them with the tag. The problem is if they already have a bunch of tags, when they submit the form, they get labeled with “Tag #1” but all of their previous tags are deleted. Is this how it’s supposed to work or us there any way around this?

If you’re implying that I could add them to a new separate audience, that’s really not ideal because then I run the risk of sending out double emails when I send a campaign to my list.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi @newedtechclassroom,

No, that is not the expected behavior. I did some testing to double-check and the Tag is added to the list of existing Tags for that user regardless of the settings used when setting up the form. I would check your settings in Mailchimp itself.

You aren’t talking about Interest Groups, are you? Those are managed via a setting in the form customizer, you can choose to either update or replace the existing groups. That is outlined here: https://yikesplugins.com/knowledge-base/submission-form-settings/

    Thanks,
    Jon
