Old site MSSQL, new site MySQL. How to develop new site?

  • Hello,

    Our current website is on a Windows server with a MSSQL db and we want to develop a new WordPress website with on a Linux server with a MySQL db. We will also have to change our hosting service.

    Can any sql data be migrated to the mysql database?

    What would you recommend for a development process for this situation?

    I would like to develop the site on a live server in a subdomain where I personally have hosting. Once the site is finished I would then want to move it to its own hosting.
    Good idea? Bad idea? Other suggestions?
