    Hello,

    Love the plugin!

I have an old URL in my sitemap that I’ve changed- I’ve removed someone’s last name from the URL and on the website.
    Example:
    Old: /john-smith
    New: /john

Both old and new are in the sitemap as the old redirects to the new. I can’t get rid of the old one!

I tried recreating the old then deleting, but the sitemap showed both for the small time I had it, and still shows the one I want deleted after I deleted that new page.

Google still sees the last name in the sitemap and redirects to the current new page without the last name.

My question is how do I remove the original URL with the last name from the sitemap for good?

    Thank you!
    Will

    Hi Will,

We believe ‘redirectables’ indexable but understand that’s not always desired. Only when you apply ‘noindex’ to the post/page, it’ll be removed from the sitemap. That setting won’t affect the redirect.

    Thank you.
But it’s the redirect that I want gone. I still want the page indexed.
How do I get rid of the redirect in the sitemap?

    Thank you!

    Hi Will,

You have to apply the ‘noindex’ to the page with the redirect. This won’t affect the indexability of the page it’s redirecting toward.

    Hi Will,

In the upcoming minor update (ETA July 16th), redirected pages will be excluded from the sitemap. Then, noindex no longer needs to be supplied separately.

An oversight in the v4.1.0 update did not serve my memory well: Redirects are seen as erroneous in the sitemap by both Google and Bing, whether or not indexable.
