old link will not go away

Hi, I created a page on my site called gallery. I deleted it but for some reason the link still works. However what s shown on the page is wrong. If i delete the page ‘gallery’ and add a new one named gallery it always refers back to the old page. How can i remove an old link ompletely so i can set it up again, new?
