Old HTML site -> new WordPress site migration

  • My current HTNL-website has been online since 2002 and although I have remodelled it more than once, I now have to renew it and I want to do it as a Responsive WordPress website.

    My question is:

    If I want to keep my current website online, while working on the new WordPress version, what is the best way to do it?
    Of course my current site is at its domain, which is where I also want the new website.

    So:

    – Where do I install WP and the new Theme so that, when the new website is done, I can switch it seemlessly from old to new, without going offline?

    I know I could put the WP in a subfolder of my domain, but of course I’d like it directly under the Root. Is that possible without it interfering with the current website?

    Your thoughts please?

  • Create a sub domain called test.yourdomain.com and put the new site there. Do all of your development there and then once you’ve completed it, take down the old one and migrate your new site from test.yourdomain.com to yourdomain.com. You can easily do this with ManageWP.com
