Ok, the version I checked is a rough guess as I haven’t had this blog up for a quite a few years now. I had it as a regular blog at one stage then bought a domain and transferred it all over to it.

I believe the blog was originally created through the .com site and then I got the domain and changed it over to the .org one? I have no idea… been too long!

Anyway, situation is this. I have a backed up file (from 2011) but it’s only the back up. I have no export files. I am trying to resurrect the blog (not the domain) part of it. I do have the WordPress folder.

Please someone tell me I can get this blog back up and running?
The original .com site is still up but the only blog post on it is that I have a new domain and to click on the link (which now doesn’t exist anymore).

I was told at the .com forum that there might be some genius here who can guide me to installing the old versions of wordpress and then just updating several times to the current version.

I may be talking in circles and I hope I’m not.
I also currently have a domain name that is sitting idle. What are the chances of it working if I upload the backed up wordpress folder to my domain and then doing the updates? Will I get all my posts back?

    Phew!

Ok….. your turn. Confuse me more! ??
    Cheers!

All the links in the database point to my old domain, the theme is also not there, it’s just a text file.

How do I fix all that?

OMG! This is just turning my head into mush!

You need to change the old domain names by search and replace and import into your current site. Once that is done, you can install your theme.

BTW, it’s a tricky business if you are not comfortable with phpMyAdmin. Errors may come up. You may need to try again. I suggest you do the work on a local installation (on your computer) so that when you find the result satisfactory, you can import it into your new site.

AWESOME!! I’m all up and running now… but I followed another post from someone else.

By doing a command in SQL and doing a search and replace of the old to new domains. it worked!! Also doing another command to update all posts with the new domain as well.

Just gonna leave it at that for now. Atleast it’s up and running and I can pass this on to the person who is in need of some help!! ??

    Cheers!!
