I’m having trouble getting FB to use the image I have selected for the FB OG image in Yoast plugin. On the FB debug tool I get the following error.

The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

The image is the only thing I’m having an issue with. I can change the title or description and it continues to scrape that instantly but it won’t use the correct image. I’ve tried multiple images, all different sizes, etc. It just keeps trying to use the websites logo. I am using Yoast Version 9.5 and all other plugins and themes are updated as well. I’ve cleared Cache multiple times.

  • Hi @justind83

We are sorry to hear about your ‘og:image’ issue.
Can you please share a specific URL of a post where you’ve assigned an OpenGraph image? Also, how you are adding your open graph image?

Just a reminder, please make sure to turn off any OpenGraph features on your theme or other plugins to avoid conflict with Yoast’s open graph tags.

Hello, I’m not trying to assign it to any particular post. I’m trying to use one in the scoial tab of Yoast for front page settings. It used to work, I’m not sure if the Yoast update caused it or another update. Given that the error is no OG image specified I don’t think another plugin or app would be providing an OG image. I’m not sure.

    Hi,

We looked at the page and we are not seeing an OG image appear in the source code. So Facebook is finding an image it thinks works best and displaying it.

We understand you are trying to assign a specific image to your homepage to appear on Facebook. We would like some more information.

    A. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v9.6?

    B. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    C. What is the image you want to appear? Can you share that URL?

    D. If you go to SEO-Social-Facebook are you able to assign a Frontpage Image URL? See image: https://pasteboard.co/I0Pkp6u.png

    Hi Pcosta

    A. When I first posted about the issue I was on 9.5 which was the updated. I have just updated to 9.6, deleted my cache and still having the issue.

    B. Everything else is updated.

    C. https://greenwisegroundscare.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Untitled-collage-1.jpg

    4. This is where I’ve been trying to assign the front page image from. The url in this spot is the one posted above in C. I’ve included a screenshot https://pasteboard.co/I0USXMf.png

    Thank you for your help.

We checked on the homepage and confirmed that an og:image tag is not being output in the page’s source code. However, we tested using the same image on a test site and the tag was output as expected. You can sometimes experience functionality problems or unexpected behavior from the plugin due to plugin or theme conflicts. Can you confirm you have performed a complete plugin/theme conflict check by disabling other plugins, and resetting the theme to a default such as twentyseventeen and seeing whether the og:image tag is output as expected for the homepage? We have additional information on how to check for a conflict here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

Thank you for your help, I disabled teh Facebook settings in Yoast and downloaded an alternate OG Image plugin and everything works accordingly now.

    Thank you again.
