You didn’t enable the Debug Messages option, so I’ll take a guess here… Your home page is a static PAGE, correct? As the help popup explains:

“The WordPress Tagline is used as a description for the index (non-static) home page, and as a fallback for the Facebook / Open Graph and Pinterest Rich Pin description (og:description) meta tag. You may override the default WordPress Tagline value here, to provide a longer and more complete description of your website. This option is localized — you may change the WordPress admin locale with Polylang, WP Native Dashboard, etc., to define alternate values for different languages.”

If you want to change the description, you should enter an excerpt for that page. ??

I have the same problem as Simusch. I read the solution too but I’m not any wiser.
This is my Website https://greenselfcare.com. If you look at the page source, the og:description is an excerpt and NOT a description.
    How to fix it, please?

You must use a static page for your home page. Edit the excerpt for that page and/or add a custom description in the Social Settings metabox.
