Offline – Online synchronisation?

  • Is there any easy way to set up synchronisation between an offline (XAMPP localhost) version of the site and the online version?
    I’d really like to play around offline, get it right, and then upload/synchronise . . I know I can backup the SQL database, then copy it over, then update, but that’s clumsy and then things in the database have to be searched and replaced. In an earlier WP “Idea” (4 years ago) someone suggested this but the idea was dismissed with a ‘Use SVN’ comment. I’ve looked at what this means – far too techie and complicated for me.
    Any simpler solutions?

  • Depends what you are talking about here. Is it a Plugin, theme, or blog ‘content’ (i.e. post/page articles) that you wish to synchronise?

    If it is just content then why not just use the Tools => Export, then Tools => import feature to upload content en masse?

    If it is a Plugin, or theme then really there is no suitable alternative than to get your hands dirty and use SVN.

    It’s simply the whole damn shooting match! ??
    If I add a plugin or change a setting, or add or change some words, or a page . . I tend to stick to the same Theme, but . . it would be great to do all that stuff offline, make mistakes, correct, be satisfied and then hit the button and synchromise the changes with the online version.
    Feels like this is just a Step Too Far?
