I’m using WOO + WP and your official Mailchimp plugin. I have set up in the plugin settings the option that users can check the box to subscribe to our mailing list during checkout. On the Mailchimp side, I have set up a double OPTIN method for that audience.

When my users subscribe through any other form on the website there is no problem (using the same audience). They fill in the needed info and they get a double opt-in confirmation email after which they are added as subscribers to the audience.

If they do the same thing on the checkout page (leave all the necessary info + email and check the box) they are added to the audience but without getting a double opt-in confirmation email so they never become subscribers.

I don’t see any options to see to set that checkout page subscription as a double opt-in one.

What can I do or what am I doing wrong?

@vinko511 the plugin does support this feature of using the double opt in. Are you by chance just using test emails or one that you use all the time? If so, we always have a recommendation of testing email addresses using a special format like this. Let’s say your email address is “[email protected]” you can then do something like this “[email protected]” or “[email protected]” in order to create a “sub account” on your email to be used as a brand new address. This has worked for us to simulate new users on the list and testing that type of functionality.

Can you please confirm that this either works or does not work with your store after making those changes to your testing?

Also – the other thing to bring up is you might have these double opt in messages going to SPAM if you haven’t validated your domain for sending yet with Mailchimp. Can you also please reach out to the support team there and make sure everything is set up properly?

Hi @vinko511, we just wanted to check back with you to see if this was still a problem with our latest plugin (2.4.7 at the time of this post). Please let us know when you get a moment, we’ll be happy to help troubleshoot further if necessary.

    Hello.

I am experiencing the exact same issue as described above by the original poster of this ticket.

I have tested with different email addresses (as you describe in your “+” tip, but also with totally different addresses).

I never receive the double opt-in email for emails that are used during the checkout process.

When I use an embedded form, I am receiving the double opt-in email.

    Please advice.

Same thing here, double opt-in feature simply does not work, even though it’s turned on in the MailChimp account for that particular audience. Just rubbish, guys c’mon, has anyone even tested this out?

Your comment about testing this out – of course we have :). Typically the reason for things not working on a specific site is something small maybe due to some cached values within your wordpress site for “site transients”.

I would ask if you could please do the following to help us troubleshoot:

    1. Make sure your Mailchimp log is turned on in our plugin. Typically it is unless you’ve explicitly turned it off before.

    2. While in your Mailchimp plugin admin please apply a query string of &mc_doi_refresh=1 to the end of the URL you see in the browser and then hit enter/return to refresh the page.

    3. Please then open up your current log for today and see if you have a log that contains the words mc.utils.doi_refresh and please post that back here. If you see the words turned ON that means it should be activated properly. I would then run another test with an email during checkout to be sure it’s submitting the info properly. You can see the debug logs for the orders being submitted or even the user’s submission with merge tags as well in our logs to help debug even more.

This feature has been tested, and should be working for all plugin users. The only thing that I can think of is that maybe you’re running a cache that might be getting in the way of the site transients being updated properly, or possibly that the emails in question are somehow being blocked during submission.

I’ll look out for your response here – we’ll get you all squared up.
