• I think official plugins should remove the options database when you delete them, or add a require option to uninstall and delete wp_options values.

There aren’t official plugins, per sey. If it’s official, it’s in WordPress itself, and not a plugin. Not even Akismet or Jetpack are official ?? tell the individual plugin devs or report however they prefer (Akismet and Jetpack each have comment forums, IIRC).

Well… IMHO, this should be a directive for WordPress Plugins system’s. All plugins should implement 4 methods (the first two at least): install, uninstall, backupOptions, restoreOptions.

In fact…, I think all plugins should be based on a parent abstract class with some methods required.

At this time, it’s not feasible. There’s not enough manpower for WP to provide that level of oversight.

Ok…, but at this time, there is nothing to prevent us from proposing unwritten guidelines like this, right?
Wordpress has come a long way in a short time, I have the hope that eventually, we will reach something like this.
    Thanks ??

No, but an unwritten guideline is about as useful as my cat when I’m trying to change the oil in my car ?? Until, and unless, WordPress decides to put some oversight on plugins, this is a pipe dream shared by many.

Yeah, …maybe as inspiration to developers; ….maybe a cat from a mechanic ??
