• My 3 yr old site has started going down randomly and only occasionally (no pattern I can detect.) The error message is ERROR ESTABLISHING A DATABASE CONNECTION. Sometimes for minutes, but recently for over an hour. The set up must be correct (right?), so I assume it’s my host Network Solutions. They have been uncooperative and absolutely not helpful.

    Any ideas on how to fix? (I’ve read the codex but find it hard and not particularly relevant to my situation.) Or how to make NetSol fix?

    Do I need a new WP-friendly host? If so, any recommendations?

    If the error is intermittent then it’s your server. What’s happening is that the web server and/or the database server are gettign overloaded and the connection is droping out or is refused for a short time. That gives you the database error as the website can’t connect to the database. To fix this, you’ll need to talk to your hosting company as they are the only ones that can do anything about hardware issues like this.

    Regarding the selection of a new host, head to https://www.webhostingtalk.com forum and spend some time reading or even asking questions.

    @t-p. That’s what I’ve assumed. I believe it’s time for me to jumpship after 12 years with Netsol. They have been unhelpful in every way. I was sold an hour of help-tech-service time,and then told by those guys that if I didn’t have an error message or more information, they couldn’t help me, even with my description of what was happening. They blamed WordPress. Now I have the error message, but I don’t believe they will do anything.

    What can they do??

    Thanks @sinip. I’ll check it out!

    For several months now, my 7 months old blog site is been showing me 504 gateway timeout or error establishing database connection. Early part of the periods it started, it will happen for short minutes and get resolved. But since 1 month now it has gone very severe and often would last for several minutes to up to an hour before resolving after series of refreshing and troubleshooting. I had spoken with my hosting company and web developer, both parties are blaming the issue on each other. This happens when i make a post or while uploading a post or moving from one page to another. It has been very frustrating especially as my site is gain rapid traffic growth. My business is almost at risk as clients may start complaining. This happens both to the backend office and frontend office of the site. Please i need help and viable solution

    this started happening to me on an intermittent basis. then today it could not find the database. i have looked on my server and it is no longer listed. my service provider tells me it is a wordpress issue likely a hack. i don’t really believe it because i had maybe two plugins, no blog, etc. i don’t know what to do though.

    @stinsy,

    If you noticed it has been close to 5 months since the OP posted!!!!!!

    If the troubleshooting already posted made no difference for you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic.
