• Hello,

I am a first time wordpress user, and am attempting to upload the wordpress files to my website control panel – https://www.helenclifton.com – via an ftp, cyberduck.

I am uploading them to what I believe is the root directory, the httpdocs file. I can’t see it would be anything else?

I edited the whp-config.php file with the necessary details, (database name wordpress, database username and password).

All the files have uploaded fine. I just copied all of them from the folder that appeared on my desktop – is this causing a problem? Am I uploading too many? Is says on the wordpress instructions to upload just the files, and not the directory – what is the directory?

When the files transferred, I typed in https://www.helenclifton.com/wp-admin/install.php – to install –

    And this came up –

    Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
    Error 404
    https://www.helenclifton.com
    Tue Jun 15 14:19:09 2010
    Apache/2.2.8 (Linux/SUSE)

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Or is it one for the server administrator?

    Many, many thanks,
    Helen

  • You need to upload the entire contents of the wordpress folder – all files plus 3 complete folders (wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes).
