Number of words in featured post slider? Length of columns?

    I am using the BigNews theme version 3.2.1 from BlogOhBlog. My site is https://www.mediabarrage.com. I would like to be able to adjust the number of words in the featured post slider at so that half of the picture in the slider is not covered up.

    Also, if you scroll down to the very bottom of the home page, you will see that the “US” and “World” columns are uneven, one column is always a little bit higher or lower than the other one. I can easily increase and decrease the number of posts in each column by going to my dashboard and clicking on BigNews Options in the Appearance category. but one column is always a little bit longer than the other one. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?
