    Hi Josie,
I tried to set up some flexibility on file dimensions for O3C contest which has rule to allow a reasonable variation in image dimensions from its recommended 1920×1080. As per instruction, I set the “Number of pixels of leeway allowed” to 500 pixels in the setting then on the layout, I checked off the “Image must be as large as possible”. Cleared page cache. But I could not get it to work. It still rejected an image upload of dimension of 1920×1280. Not sure what I did wrong. Please advise.

You don’t say what you have set the maximum width and height to.

In trying to accommodate as many different rules as possible, I’m afraid this has got a bit complicated. I think you are saying that you want to allow any width between 1420 and 2420, and any height between 580 and 1580.

If that is correct, then the maximum width should be 2420, and the maximum height 1580. You would then really need to set the leeway to 1000, but I’m afraid 800 is the largest allowed.

The point is that whatever you set for the maximum dimensions really is enforced. The “leeway” only applies to the “must be as large as possible” rule.

    Thanks for your reply.
I set the maximum width and height to 1920×1080 as per O3c rules.
I thought by setting the leeway to 500 and checked off the “must be as large as possible” will allow images of width between 1420 and 2420, and height between 580 and 1580. That is how I interpret the instructions.
But you are saying that I have to set the maximum width x height to 2420×1580.
With that setting I then don’t need to set the leeway value and don’t need to have the “must be as large as possible” checked.
So I am a bit confused with the leeway functionality.

It is used only in connection with the “must be as large as possible” constraint, which essentially sets one of the dimensions exactly.

Some software’s resizing is not accurate to within 1 pixel. Later, I was asked to add options larger than a few pixels to accommodate some special cases.

If you set a maximum width and height without checking “must be as large as possible” and without setting a minimum longest dimension, you allow images so small as to be unusable.

In most cases, setting a minimum longest dimension is the simplest way to avoid that problem, and the one normally used.

I guess I am over stretching the purpose of the leeway feature a bit to allow larger range of dimensions. I’ll just have to set the max. dimensions as needed.
    Thanks for the clarification.
