• I have several sites using Powerpress, but a new one I’d switched over doesn’t seem to be behaving in the same fashion.

From what I’ve been able to try out, using the Custom Podcast Channel ignores the “Show the Most Recent” setting and uses the website default, but setting up a Category Podcasting Channel will respect the custom feed items setting.

Did I miss a step in setting up the Custom Podcast channel? Or do the custom feed items only work in Category channels?

That’s not right, it may be a bug. Can you reply with the feed URLs?

What value did you specify for the podcast channel?

The feed in question is https://www.kickassmysticninjas.com/feed/podcast/ and the value I specified is 75 (there are 54 items total in the feed).

You might have to do the redirect=no trick to see it since the main feed is being tracked at Podtrac, https://feeds.podtrac.com/90Dk7ZFLsF33 (I have that configured to use the /?feed=podcast URL to avoid looping).

Also, https://www.babylonpodcast.com/feed/podcast/ is set to 325 items, and is displaying all 302 items in the feed (though iTunes only shows 300). So that one seems to be working with the Custom Podcast Channel settings…

The only difference I see is that the non-working feed is WP 4.3.1 and the working feed is WP 4.2.5

The site using Category casting is https://www.winginitarchives.com and for instance, https://www.winginitarchives.com/category/dpwi/feed/ has 67 items in it, and all the category casts set up there are working (that site is running 4.3.1, but still using Powerpress 6.1)

It’s odd… I can’t seem to figure out what’s causing the discrepancy… all three sites are on the same server!

    So, to sum up:
working: WP 4.2.5, PP 6.2.1, custom channel (babylonpodcast.com)
working: WP 4.2.5, PP 6.1, category channels (winginitarchives.com)
not working: WP 4.3.1, PP 6.2.1, custom channel (kickassmysticninjas.com)

FYI, I tried updating to Powerpress 6.2.2, but the problem still exists.

However, I downgraded to Powerpress 6.1 on a whim, and the problem still persisted, but I waited a little while then compared settings between kickassmysticninjas.com and babylonpodcast.com since both are using the custom podcast channel, and the single thing I changed to make both identical was removing the “iTunes Subscription URL” in the main iTunes settings.

I then did a hard refresh, and now my larger item limit on kickassmysticninjas.com is behaving as expected; that feed now has the full list of episodes.

So Powerpress 6.1 works the way I need to. Then I updated back to 6.2.1, keeping the adjusted settings, and the feed still works the way I need to.

I have absolutely no idea why removing that iTunes URL field changed anything, but since that’s the only update I made to the site that wasn’t working, I gotta make the obvious assumption about it.

I may try updating to 6.2.2 later in the week, but for now, I’ll keep things as is and let the feed updates settle in.

Your web server is using HTTP/2.0 (I am jealous), it may be doing some advanced caching with the browser. I know a lot about web, HTTP and socket programming, but I am not that knowledgeable on HTTP/2.0. I do know Google abandoned SPDY in favor of it. If it makes Google abandon want they do, then it must be pretty good.

By the way, only upgrade to PowerPress 6.2.2 if you also upgrade WordPress to 4.4. WordPress modified how feed titles are generated.

PowerPress 6.3 coming out later today will work with both new and old versions of WordPress.

fpmsummer are you still having this problem?
