In the description, the plugin notes the ability to be able to modify the number of posts in the featured content area. I have searched and searched, but can’t seem to figure out a way to change the default 6 posts to just 3 in the featured content section. Tried multiple fixes listed for the Twenty Fourteen theme, but none seemed to translate over to the Fourteen Extended theme. Any help would be much appreciated.

The option to set the number of posts for the grid/slider is located in the Appearance >> Customize >> Featured Content tab.

The current version uses the theme’s built in featured-content.php for definition so you may need to leave the customizer and then come back in for the changes to take place. The upcoming update includes its own featured-content.php definition thus avoiding the need to flash the theme’s transients.

Hope that helps resolve your issue, if not please feel free to post back with more details and I’ll do my best to assist.

There is no Feature Content tab under Customize for me. Are there any known plugins that could possibly be conflicting?

There have been know issues with Jetpack but I believe/think those were addressed in the recent updates.

Could you try with the default theme active and all installed plugins deactivated to see if you can access the Featured Content section? You’d then reactivate the plugins one by one to see which one is causing the issues and we can proceed from there with finding a fix for it.

I disabled all plugins and still was unable to see the Featured Content tab. Then I realized I am using the FourteenXtd Child Theme (which looks like now has been renamed to Sequel?). When switching to the Twenty Fourteen default theme, I see the featured content tabs, but am unable to see them with the child theme. Any advice?

    AH, OK.

Yes FourteenXtd was experimental to see how things work out with the various options – it was renamed for public release as per this post: https://wpdefault.com/sequel-a-twenty-fourteen-child-theme/

Essentially Sequel is FourteenXtd but with more features and enhancements – the original is left on site for download as a child theme starting point facilitator in addition to many other child themes that are planned/released so far.

So unless you are a developer or looking to develop your own Twenty Fourteen child theme then you should go with the public released version of Sequel. You can see the demo of the theme here: https://sequel.wpdefault.com/ – but note that the current layout is not yet public and a copy is available for testing here: https://wpdefault.com/forums/topic/sequel-a-twenty-fourteen-child-theme/#post-830

Hope that helps clarify the matter ??

Yes this definitely helps, appreciate you following up with me.

I know I’m probably getting off the original subject matter now, but I have the Sequel theme now activated and see the “Home Options” section. When enabled, it takes the most recent posts and puts them in the “Featured Content” section at the top of the home page (which I’m looking to add), but then removes the posts from the blogroll below. Is there a way to have the most recent posts in the featured content section and also still in the blogroll below?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Cool.

I’m currently working on both Sequel and Fourteen Extended to see if the home feed manipulation via pre_get_posts can be combined so that both play nicely together.

Will be updating both as soon as I can get the function to work as intended.
