This is not directly related to my plugin, but please take a look at wp_get_recent_posts. For post_type you should use attachment.

example:

$recent_images = wp_get_recent_posts( array(
	'numberposts' => 5,
	'post_type' => 'attachment'
) );

It’s also possible to use category as a parameter.
