Number Field Size and Text Area Border issues

You have to cancel/change/over-rider the following:

You may name the filed with id [… id:name ….], and then call css for that called id.

Well, I read the instructions and tried to change the number field width, by giving it an Id value and putting the following code in Custom CSS

#yearsofexp{
	width: 700px;
}

OR

#yearsofexp{
	width: 100%;
}

But it does nothing to the field.

Also, how do we explain the text area border issue?
