  • Should be in index.php or single.php. Exactly after this line:

    <div id="content" role="main">

    Let me know if that helps.

    Look for:
    space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space 6 space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space

    See source code…it is very unlikely this was random…so advise customer not to edit files…or leave computer unattended/site logged into when absolutely not required….

    Thank you both, Ishan001, I checked those files before posting, neither has a 6 in the file at all, but I double checked this morning. The customer has no admin rights to get into the codes. It just appeared about 3 weeks ago. I cannot find any file that has a rouge 6 in it anywhere.

    I appreciate your help. Any other ideas?

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Haven’t tried switching to the Default Theme … will try that next. Thanks everyone, this one’s a head scratcher. Stay tuned!!

    Couple of things. What version of WP are you running? Second, what i would do just to eliminate this possibility is goto your FTP client, on your local site (not the server) and find your index page, right click and select open with, select text edit or note pad depending on your OS, once thats open look for your mysterious number 6. If there delete it and upload your file to the server. Keep us posted. =)

    running 3.5.1 BigChadJon, I will do that – Thank you

    BigChadJon … no 6 in any of the index files, not a single one. I guess I’ll start deactivating plugins to see if that works.

    Curiouser and curiouser

    You didn’t perchance edit the theme’s category.php file to remove the “Category Archives:category name” text? As that site’s home page is displaying the blog category layout, that is where I would look. I can generate the same thing by “accidentally” adding a 6 there ??
