• I am logged in as site administrator and I received this text in dashboard

    WordPress 4.6.1 is available! Please notify the site administrator.

    That is new, no? Usually I am just able to update via dashboard.

  • Check you wp-config file for this: define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_MODS’,true); and remove it or change to false.

    2. Try creating a new admin user and see if you can update using that account.

    I am having the same problem. Adding a new admin does not change the message and I have checked wp-config and there is no define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_MODS’,true);

    Any other suggestions very welcome as I now cannot update core or plugins.

    Thanks

    Same problem. Adding a new admin does not change anything and I have checked wp-config and there is no define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_MODS’,true)

    Anyone found a solution?

    Thanks

    I found the site I was dealing with had been hacked with malicious code inserted in various places including at the beginning of the wp-config file and on virtually every .php file in the site as well as additional htaccess files added. I had to re-install all the WP Admin and Includes files and clean up files on the server and in several plugins.

    so no simple solution unfortunately.

    Good luck

    Thank you, adding define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS', false); resolved the issue for me.

    Your first solution worked perfectly for me. My website seemed to have been loaded with malware and I am trying to clean it. Some hacker did 150+ posts on my blog. Thank you so much.
