‘Notify Members’ Plugin Broken in 2.5.1

I’m utilizing the ‘Notify Members’ (0.2.2) plugin with my WP (2.5.1) installation. The plugin does exactly what it is supposed to except for one major bug.

Under DASHBOARD > SETTINGS > MEMBER NOTIFICATION the ‘Notify users when a post is edited’ box is UNCHECKED. However, users are still notified of a new post whenever an existing post is edited. This results in members (who have elected to receive a notification of posts) receiving notification of a NEW post even when fixing a typo in an EXISTING post.

The plugin author has acknowledged the bug. Many have had this problem. Anyone fix this issue on their own?
