Nothing updating since upgrading wordpress

    I recently took over a wordpress site that had an extremely old wordpress version running 2.6.3. I backed up everything & upgraded to wordpress 3.5, added in my custom theme & everything has been running great as far as that goes.

    However, all the plugins that needed to be updated are not updating, the system just hangs. I even tried to install some new plugins & same thing the system hangs.

    I have never dealt with a wordpress version that was so outdated before. Has anyone experienced this & have any things to try to get it running more normal?
