I installed this plugin, registered to get API and added API key. It says everything is OK. When I do a new post or update older one, I click “update” after setting up a template, nothing happens. It still says there is 50 unused (free account) and nothing happens. I’m using Yoast SEO and I tried to switch the setting on and off in the settings for Mightyshare to control og:images. Didn’t work. What am I doing wrong?

Hey @tpuuska, do you have a “default” social image set in Yoast SEO? it needs a default set so that MightyShare can overwrite it. Kind of a weird quick of Yoast, mind sharing your site’s URL if that isn’t working?

Hello Andy! I did have default social image set and I tried to set it again for two different sizes. Yoast SEO recommends 1200×675 but I know Facebook uses 1200×630. I tried both of the sizes. I disabled Mightyshare as globally, and tried to enable on it a specific post to try it out: https://nauruvirasto.fi/vanhat-sukulaiseni-kiusasivat-minua-haissa/

Screen capture as it shows inside this post when editing it.

Can you share a screenshot of the “Site Image” located in Site Basics in Yoast. I am thinking one isn’t set granted I do see “og-2023.jpg” on all the other pages, hmmm. If you disable MightyShare on the page you shared does it go back to that og-2023.jpg image?

Here’s the screenshot (partly in Finnish). I just realized when I looked into the “Articles/post” page on Yoast SEO that you need Premium subscription to Yoast SEO to set a default image on articles/posts. Is this causing it?

Here’s a screen capture from the Content Types / Articles/posts page. I see an option to set default image for articles/posts. I don’t recall this being a premium feature before.. is this a new thing or a cause of it?

I just disabled MightyShare plugin if you check it, I cleared cache.

@tpuuska thank you for the back and forth, I see there still isn’t an image set so I am thinking Yoast has degraded that option as you pointed out. Give me a bit to take a look at this! If you do manually set a featured photo I think MightyShare will overwrite it (it just needs an image to trigger Yoast basically) but that defeats the purpose of the plugin.

I just enabled MightyShare, added a featured image to this post: https://nauruvirasto.fi/vanhat-sukulaiseni-kiusasivat-minua-haissa/ -> published it, but it still has the original featured image (I used the og-2023.jpg as an featured image when trying this).

How does your plugin work, does it automatically create the new Open Graph image when I save/publish the post, and upload it directly to my sites Media library where I can find it?

I’m not limited to Yoast SEO, I’ve been thinking of trying out AIO SEO. Do you have support with that SEO plugin as well if I try it? ??

@tpuuska Just double checked on a fresh install and it works without filling out that premium area you noted, still looking into this. I am thinking there is another plugin or code that’s affecting these pages.

And yes it also works with AIO SEO.

I am thinking that Yoast isn’t adding social images to those pages for some reason, especially now that you pointed out setting a featured image worked. If you want to try AIO SEO that’s fine and may fix the issue but I know that can be a big change.

You could also try the manual og:image option int he MightyShare general option that surpasses SEO plugins. Granted I don’t recommend it since it can lead to 2 og:images on pages if you aren’t careful.

FYI: I just upgraded to Rank Math PRO and just installed it. Still, nothing happens to a post/article I updated. I removed the featured image I set manually on a post, then the Rank Math set the “global og image” for it because it didn’t have any feature image set manually. MightyShare is still activated. I will try to disable some of my plugins to see if I found something that is causing it.

Is Rank Math supported too? Should MightyShare be performed in real time, if I post a new article, it should show OG image after publishing it?

Quick update! Now something happened and it works. I set “Enable MightyShare” button in your plugin settings, then disabled “Enabled by Default on” option “Artikkelit” (Articles in english). After saving settings, MightyShare generated a OG image to the post! I’m currently testing it and if I see something causing it, I’ll let you know.

@tpuuska oh strange, I am glad it is working now! Maybe the settings weren’t correctly saved? still strange yoast wasn’t using the default on those pages even with MightyShare disabled. Glad it’s working! Let me know if Finnish characters work in images as well (if not I can fix).

I understand the OG image is generated through your server and served from it. It is possible to serve this OG image locally from my site?

Hey @tpuuska currently we do not. We are considering adding the option for a custom cname so you could mask MightyShare under a sub domain.
