    Hello,

I need to use classic editor instead of Gutenberg.
But if I activate this plugin, every character with accent (spanish) or german umlaut will be lost and some wrong characters are saved at the database and will be displayed.

    THX for any help.
    Henry

    Hi Henry,

That’s a strange one. I’ve never heard of anything like this happening before. The FAQs are a custom post type, so they will behave the exact same as regular posts when using the Classic Editor plugin. Where are you seeing the change (front end, back end, single post page, etc.)? I just tested this and no letters are changed when I activate that plugin.

If you could provide a link and screenshots of exactly where it’s happening, that would be helpful.

    Thank you

    Hello,

    Yes, this is verry strange!
I can give you access to a copy of my current installation. The effect can be reproduced!

    THX

    Hi Henry,

I’m not sure if, by access, you mean just to view the front end of your site, or if you mean admin access. If you do mean admin access, then it’s important to note that it’s never a good idea to offer or provide access/credentials to your site admin to anyone. We cannot accept credentials or access your site admin, so please do not post any information related to that.

This is why I requested that you send screenshots and further information about exactly where and how the issue is happening. Would you be able to please provide this information?

    Hello,

I have noticed that there are also effects with the umlauts in other places (menus, maintenance plugin).

In detail it is now clear that it is due to the FastCGI-PHP version of my webspace. Certain PHP conversions fail, because obviously the PHP version is not set up properly. With old one there are no effects, but some plugin don’t work with the old PHP.

As soon as I have clarity about this, I assume that this plugin is only out of the DB because of wrongly delivered data by PHP or possibly already at sending (post), like the maintenance plugin does (there I have the wrong characters already in the DB)

    THX, I’ll let you know!

    Hello,

first of all: I apologize for the originally wrong assumption that FAQ would change the view of the website.

After a lot of searching I found that the effects on my site were caused by a wrong setting in PHP for the module mbstring!

There “HTTP input encoding translation” and “mbstring.encoding_translation” were set to “enabled”. This caused some plugins to store wrong characters in the DB and of course again when reading them.

But the FAQ plugin had replaced page-wide accents and umlauts when activated.

I suspect that there is a connection with the used encoding in the plugins at POST and GET, so that the effect only affects some plugins.

Wordpress itself also “suffers” from the wrong setting: The umlauts and accents in the MENU names and MENU entries are then also lost, if there is the wrong setting above.

    THX
    Henry
