• Nice plugin.

I’d like to mention a fault.

When option blog_public is enabled (admin :: reading :: search engine visibility), the plugin will not handle the robots.txt rewrite rule.
Is there a reason behind this behavior?

    According to this post
    https://stackoverflow.com/a/18316292
and the comment section below, there could be circumstances where both robots meta tag and robots.txt file should be present to disable both crawling and indexing.

The plugin doesn’t attempt to override WordPress settings or other plugins. Also, if there’s a physical robots.txt in the root folder, the plugin’s robots.txt settings won’t be used.

    Thanks for the response.

My issue is that if wordpress is set to echo the noindex robots meta tag (through admin :: reading :: search engine visibility), this plugin will not work. I would like to have both the meta tag and the robots.txt virtual file present.

I understand your request, but there are 50,000+ other active users any number of which may be relying on the current behaviour. There may be an SEO-related plugin with a broader set of features that will allow you to accomplish your goals.

Ok. Maybe a switch could be included in the settings page allowing administrators to have both features available (virtual file and meta tags). With a default value “OFF”, so that current installations keep functioning as expected.

Of course I could switch to another plugin or upload a (regular) robots file. I just wondered if it would be possible to satisfy my requirements with your light-weight plugin.

In any case, thanks for your reply. You may also mark this topic as resolved.
