  • Low color images are a known issue in the current version of Google Viewer, which GDE embeds.

I see this embedder is not showing the PDF file on my iPhone. This makes it pretty much useless since I can’t turn the viewer off. Before I upgraded it, it was being used as a convenient PDF uploader and created special text for the download link but apparently that’s not working the same and I can’t edit it to do what it used to do.

If I don’t get a response as to how I can edit it to do what it used to do, then I’ll have to remove & find something else.

    Joyce,

I might catch a whiff of somebody who’s used to not getting responses to her support requests, but alas, here I am.

GDE works on iphone, and nothing has changed in the plugin for some time that would affect its display there. While I can’t speak to the actual document you’re having a problem with (no info provided) you can try clearing your cache and cookies in Safari and see if that solves the problem.

    Kevin,

I appreciate your responding quickly and giving the link to refreshing Safari on iPhone.

I did give a link to the site that’s using this plugin in the original post in this thread and a link to the archived site for what it used to look like.

Somehow this plugin was used without the viewer feature, though I don’t know why. The site editor says it seemed to affect the editor and how he attached the file. I don’t understand why it’s on the site.

Is there a way to make these files load quicker? Though it might be a good plugin for some folks. It makes no sense to me since it slows the site down.

    Joyce,

Sorry, I missed that you were the author of this thread originally. The two issues seemed unrelated and I didn’t look closely – my fault.

You’d have to do some odd hijacking to get GDE to display the link and not the viewer on purpose. There are only a few circumstances this can happen, listed here. When I visit the link you provided, the viewer is shown.

The performance of the standard viewer is limited to the speed at which Google can retrieve the document from your server to perform a conversion, and the size of the document. Your document is only two pages in size but over 1MB. I recommend you optimize your source document for web use to improve performance. Some notes on this here. GDE is not involved in network transfer when you’re using the standard viewer option, so the performance is limited by your document size and the connectivity of your hosting environment (and your personal internet connection). There isn’t anything GDE can do to improve these.

    Hope this helps,

    Kevin
