  • In the original description of this problem (back at the beginning of this thread), the symptoms did not include an error message. All of you that think you are having the same problem on WP 4.4 may or may not actually be seeing the same problem. Saying “it doesn’t work on 4.4” isn’t too helpful in figuring out if there is an actual single issue affecting several of you or if you are perhaps seeing different problems.

I suggest each of you post a description of what you see that is broken and also post a test URL that we can get to it to try it. And post whether you upgraded from WP 4.3, whether it worked prior to 4.4, and your versions of Download Monitor & Contact Form 7.

Reading through, it does seem that we are all having the same URL issue (not error) but this is what is happening on my end. Once the user completes the form and clicks download, EBD does it’s job in displaying the ajax download URL for the user to download, but once clicked, it sends the user to a blank page with the “Object Moved” message along with the long tail URL as mentioned throughout these posts: (/wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/download.php?dl=28a23c596931898900933729ceeccbbb). Instead of providing the user with the download.

Live Website: WordPress v4.4 – EBD does not work 100%
Staging Website: WordPress v4.3 – EBD works 100%

Plugins running on both websites Live and Staging:
    – Contact Form 7 v4.3.1
    – Email Before Download v3.4
    – Advanced Custom Fields v4.4.4
    – Download Monitor v1.9.1

    Live Testing Page: https://www.nexj.com/resource-center/nexj-technical-architecture/

I have the same issue described by Dru.web with the exception that in my case there’s no “Object moved” alert.

    Test page:
    https://webdev.ecovadis.com/whitepapers/

I posted them before but here are the versions I’m using.
    – Advanced Custom Fields Pro 5.3.1
    – Contact Form 7 4.3.1
    – Download Monitor 1.9.1
    – Easy FancyBox 1.5.7

    Thanks for your help!

I′m no expert but in my opinion it′s clear that the problem is related to a incompatibility with the WP 4.4

For all of us, for what I read, the problem started with the WP 4.4 upgrade.

The one and ONLY difference in my website from before the problem to after the problem, is the WP 4.4 uprade.

I have the exact problem as Dru.web ecxept I don′t get the “object moved” alert.

This plugin is fantastic! We use for one of our company websites and we love it. The thing, if there is active response to WP upgrades, I can′t keep it =(

Really appreciate the plugin hope everyone have a great 2016!

Yupp… Everything went wrong after the 4.4 update and absolutely nothing has changed from my working staging site to my non working live site, except the wordpress version from 4.3 to 4.4.

I am not 100% sure why I am seeing the “Object Moved” message but it does seem to be something new within wp that others are experiencing as well in different posts.

does anyone see the problem who does NOT have the Advanced Custom Fields plugin installed?

    Hello,

That is a good catch dtynan. If there is anyone who is having problems with out that plugin, please post a test page and some information about your set up.

There has also been a WordPress Release of 4.4.1 today (Jan 6), so if anyone can update and let us know if the problem persists after that as well.

Happy New Year. I updated to 4.4.1 on our recollx.com site and no change to the symptom. We do not use the Advanced Custom Fields plugin on any of our sites.

    Hello,

I have the same problem on my website : download link doesn’t work, it leads to a blank page.
    I created a test page here : https://goo.gl/4ACuIN
When I download, it opens a new page, with a url https://www.website.com/wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/download.php?dl=123456789… but the page is blank, saying it is not correctly redirected.

I was already the plugin on an other website (not updated), and it works.
Now this website is WP 4.4.1, and it doesn’t work.

    Any idea ?
Do you nedd I try somthing to make some tests ?

Thanks in advance for your help ??

I disabled all plugins except for Contact Form 7, Email Before Download and WordPress Download Monitor while running WordPress 4.4.1 and the problem still persists. I had already setup a test page on our recollx.com site.

What’s the next step and how can we assist further?

    Thanks!

I have the same problem. I’ve got an URL with a blank page.

    https://www.conexaosabor.com.br/wp-content/plugins/email-before-download/download.php?dl=e790f36c77dd7a01d8097eb452e4f71d

I don’t know if helps, but:

. when I uploaded the file, via Download Monitor, and test it, I’ve got an 404 error (page not found) So, I uploaded the file again, via media upload, and attached it. So the page worked. But the URL problem persists.

. I never received any email (1. Delivery Format = both). I installed Postman SMTP, and it’s setup is ok. But I don’t received emails from Email Before Download.

. I downloaded the download_log file, I noticed that there’s no recipient email or file url.

Man, I am sorry that everyone is having this issue still.. I too am still encountering this issue but for now I have built my own custom form, looped it through Download Monitor and all is well. If some of you need help around this (until there is a fix), I may be able to help you out with my solution for now. PM me.

    All you will need is:
    – A custom built form
    – ACF Plugin
    – Download Monitor

Question: For the gents having the blank page / URL issue, what server are you running? IIS, Apache, Linux ect?

Note: I have created a fresh instance of wordpress locally with only the necessary plugins for Email Before Download – does not work – same issue.

Thanks for the work-around @dru.web. Due to the dependence of the outdated Download Monitor, I thought this day might come where an alternative approach to EBD is required. Perhaps we’ve put it off as long as can be expected? We have to find a reliable solution so we can move forward.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to EBD?

I’d rather keep the current EBD solution if this issue can be solved but I’m not sure what is happening with a fix, particularly if M and S Consulting cannot reproduce the issue that many here seem to experience.

Well, so far MandS hasn’t been of any help to me either (I privately contacted them).
I’m kind of new here so I don’t know if plugin authors are supposed to provide some minimum support, or since it’s a free plugin support is mainly crowdsourced?
Either case I have the feeling they’ve not been acting on this bug, the very few workarounds are coming from other users.
I will keep plugged to this thread as I’m interested in knowing an alternative.

    Hello all,

Thank you for your patience as we try to determine the cause, Without being able to duplicate the issue, it has been slow going. But I was able to get EBD to work on a site that had previously been having trouble. I created a new contact form, default and free of customization, and used it in an EBD test page. The download worked as expected. For those still having difficulty, if they could use a default Contact Form and report if they are still having issues.
