I was thrilled to discover this plugin, since we have very old and IT-awkward members who we need to protect from seeing the Dashboard.

So I installed and entered with the login details of one of these members, and was then so disappointed that it still threw the member to the dashboard, regardless of the attached settings:

I tried multiple times, each time clearing cache and browser caches in both the browsers I was working in, to no avail. Simply not working, so I cannot protect our older members.

    Can you help?

    Kind Regards,
    Marjoline

  • Hi Marjoline,

Before I can help you troubleshoot further, the first thing we need to confirm is whether the members you’re attempting to disallow do in fact have the edit_others_posts capability, which is the capability tied to the “Editors and Administrators” option.

The plugin checks for the capability, and if present, doesn’t perform the redirect.

The important point here is that access is granted (and the redirect is skipped) based on a capability the users have vs one(s) they don’t have, so if we can figure out a unique capability non-members have and members don’t, that would be the best way to confirm the plugin is working as intended.

    Ah, that’s great, Drew,
    Thanks so much.
I had solved the problem with another plugin in the meantime, but now I’ll know what to look for next time.
    Thanks,
    Cheers,
    Marjoline
