I have two WordPress sites. I’ll call them Site One and Site Two.

I installed MiniOrange 2FA on Site One, and I chose Authy authenticator for my smartphone app. It worked fine.

Then I installed MiniOrange 2FA on Site Two. The plugin installed correctly, and I was able to log in one time using the OTP from Authy.

Now, however, I can only log in to one site at a time. If I log in at Site One, then Site Two won’t accept the OTP from Authy. I get this message:

    “Invalid OTP. Try again.”

Even if I log out of Site One, I still can’t log in to Site Two. I tried to use the security questions after “Forgot phone?”, but they don’t work either.

Finally, if I log out of Site One, then I can’t get back into either site. Something different happens at that point. Instead of getting the “Invalid OTP” message, I’m simply thrown back to the login page with empty fields. It’s just an endless circle now, and I’m locked out of both of my WordPress accounts.

I saw that someone else left a message in this forum about the same problem. Apparently the problem was resolved, but I don’t know how it was fixed.

    I’d appreciate any help.

    Cheers,
    Doug

I think I might have found the answer to my own question. After carefully rereading the MiniOrange 2FA description, I noticed that it says that the free version is valid for one user. I assumed I was just one user, but perhaps not.

I’m guessing that a user is not defined as a person but actually as a website. So since I tried to use MiniOrange on two websites, it didn’t work. My two websites technically count as 2 users. And to do that, I need to use the paid version.

That’s just a guess, since the language isn’t entirely clear to me, but I think that is the issue.

    Hi Doug,

You can login to both the sites with the same miniOrange Id, and you will be able to use 2FA On both of the sites. It still counts as 1 user only. Only if you wish to use 2FA for the other users in your website as well, you will have to upgrade.

Regarding the redirect to login page issue,

It might be the case that the plugin is not able to write the PHP session info (into the /var/lib/php/sessions directory ) because of permission issues, and hence it is failing at the authentication step.

Can you please make sure that the folder /var/lib/php/sessions have sufficient permissions? You will need to assign the directory with the owner that has the appropriate write permissions.
You can contact your web hosting provider for the above if you are not sure about doing it yourself.

I have also sent you an updated plugin with the workaround for this issue by mail. Let me know if the issue is solved at your end.

    Thanks,
    miniOrange team.
