Thing you could take a look:

1. Are you sure the plugin is still activated on your site?
2. Maybe your server disabled CURL so wp_remote_get() doesn’t work?

I think your site doesn’t support CURL or getting content from “other sites” which is common to a lot of webhosts.
Are you on a shared hosting, can we know which hosts you use?

I did get it to work – thanks for your replies.. I had to keep debugging in FB debugger and eventually got it

Awesome! Good that you got it sorted out.
FB caches your page for some time so you need to wait a while to try again.

I would then request you change the “1 star” you put, so it wouldn’t confuse other new users of the plugin
