• I realize this plugin is 2+ years old and there’ve been no comments from the dev in nearly that long. I’m writing on the off chance someone will see this and help.

I use this plugin successfully on sites that want NO comments anywhere and it still works. The site I’m working on now wants them turned off for all but ONE category. I thought I had it setup correctly but maybe I missed something. Here’s what I have…

    in the plugin settings:
    Where/When to disable
    for specific categories
    all BUT “the comma” category

    in Discussion Settings
checked: comments allowed on any new articles
not checked: users must be registered and logged in
and they’re allowed for 21 days

comment must be approved is checked.

The comment box appears correctly only on the one desired category but when I try to post a comment on a brand new post I get: “Sorry, comments are closed for this item.”

Have I missed something? Is there any alternative to this plugin or coding tricks?
    Thanks,
    Sheila

  • For anyone wondering about this, the plugin does work as intended when configured properly. Here’s an example of how to set it up:

Say I want to enable comments only on posts that are categorized as “WordPress”. First I need to go to the plugin settings page, check the box for disable comments and select all categories other than “WordPress”. Next I need to edit the posts in the “WordPress” category to make sure that the comments status is set to “Allow” in the in-post settings (the Discussion box on the post edit screen). You can do this quickly by bulk editing the posts. New posts will have comments enabled by default, but the old “WordPress” posts might have been set to disabled, hence the need to edit them. Lastly, realize that if any of the post’s categories are set to have comments disabled, then comments will be disabled even if the post has a category of “WordPress”.
