    Hello, my friend,

First of all, the total size of your website is around 1.7MB in total in both the desktop and the mobile version, as far as I can see. I do not see the 18MB you mention. Could you please point me to the place where you have made this measurement?

Also, I noticed that your content is served via the Cloudflare CDN, right? Unfortunately CDNs and caching servers (like Varnish) are a special case and our plugin can only support them in an experimental mode. The reason for this is that they handle and deliver your images directly and do not allow your WordPress installation and, thus, our plugin to do its job. You win some, you lose some, I guess.

However, in order to activate this feature you can enable the CDN support option in the plugin settings page and make sure that the CDN does not strip away urls from images because these are necessary in this mode!

    Hope this helps.

Let me know if I can help any further.

    Cheers,
    Takis

Hi Takis, thanks for the fast reply. I logged into my server and can see that the plugin is not storing any cached images in the cached image directory

dareboost.com is showing that the weight of the page is 20.4MB. Just do their mobile speed test. i’d attach a screenshot but I don’t see a way to attach an image.

I will try the CDN option, I use Cloudflare but just for https only.

i tried the CDN option, it’s still not creating any cached images in the cached directory.

Looks like cloudflare has Mirage Image Optimization, I’m going to try this instead and see how it goes, since removing https is not a good option.

Cloudflare isn’t doing the job either, but I tested piio and it’s working, but only issue is the images are linking to their cdn domain, so not sure how that will affect seo.

I guess one option is to remove https and then use this plugin, but I prefer to keep https and cloudflare. ??

Is it possible for you to setup a site with cloudflare and get it working with their https enabled? They have a free service.

Also I would organize the cache folder into month and date, putting all cahced images with a big site into one directory might not be good if it’s a huge site.

    Hello, again,

Hmm, I did make a test with dareboost.com and the result is a total of 1.28MB, as you can see here https://prntscr.com/lim8in (https://www.dareboost.com/en/report/d_5bed3913e967905e05bc4e7f), but this is not very important anyway. ??

About Cloudflare, you might get the plugin working if and only if you can configure the CDN to keep url parameters on images, so that image requests like this https://www.puppyimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Im-thirsty.jpg?resolution=320,1 are fully relayed back to your WordPress installation. however, even then CDN support is not a 100% complete.

But, in general the http vs https should not be an issue with our plugin. And https is a must nowadays! I suggets you ask for an SSL certificate from you original host. They are so cheap, even free with Let’s encrypt!

About the cache folder, its structure is organised automatically by the Adaptive Images plugin and it follows the original structure of your WordPress directories.

So, all in all, I guess you have 2 options here, if you need to get the plugin to work: i) use the experimental CDN support feature, but make sure the CDN keeps url parameters on images or ii) stop using the CDN and install SSL on your website.

    Cheers,
    Takis

Hi Takis, I’m not sure what you mean by keeps url parameters. If you know setting in cloudflare that takes care of this let me know.

Do you have a domain you can quickly test with cloudflare, cloudflare is free to use. If you can test it and find solution that would be great. I’m sure this will come up again as a lot of people use cloudflare.

    Hi, there,

By keeping url parameters I mean that a url like this https://www.puppyimages.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Im-thirsty.jpg?resolution=320,1 will keep the ending ?resolution=320,1 when the CDN requests a resource from your WordPress installation in order to cache it.

Specifically for Cloudflare the settings for this are explained here https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200168256-What-are-Cloudflare-s-caching-levels- and you can set them up in Cloudflare here https://prntscr.com/lj30gx.

Let me know how it goes!

    Cheers,
    Takis

So you mean set it to “no query string”?

    Plugin Author Takis Bouyouris

    (@nevma)

I mean to set it to “Standard” as it is shown in the screenshot here: https://prnt.sc/lj30gx/.
