• Hi Guys,
I am hoping you can direct me to installing wordpress. I have been working on this problem for a while and I think I am going to cry.

Currently I am working on a site for the American Welding Society’s District. The American Welding Society has a website https://www.aws.org The American Welding Society has a section laid out for individual sections and districts. The section sites are sections.aws.org/dist21 which is our district.

I can upload all the wordpress files that is not the problem. When I go to the /install it gives me a bunch of garbled junk on the page. I am afraid I am not able to reach the root directory because of the way the system is set up for the individual districts to have a website. Anyone run into these types of problems before?

    Thank You for Your Help

  • you wouldn’t be going to /install, you’d need to go to sections.aws.org/dist21/wp-admin/install.php (assuming you’re dropping your files in the dist21 root)

I am sorry I dropped the install.php by accident. I would go to the sections.aws.org/dist21/wp-admin/install.php and I get the above.
    Thanks Again

What sort of junk? Does your web server support PHP?

Our server supports PHP. When I go to the install.php I get this page that looks like it is going to install and give me a password, but it is looks like dsylexic writing all over the place. It is all garbled and don’t get anything else. I hope this gives a better idea.

    Thanks Again

If it is “garbled” then PHP is not running.

    Although if I go here:
    sections.aws.org/dist21/wp-admin/install.php
    it says 404 not found

    Moshu,
If it says 404 not found does that mean it is not installed in the right place? Or not there at all. I spoke with the person who administers all of the system and the informed me that they have PHP. Tonight I will take everything down and put it up again and see if it works.

Which wordpress release are you trying to install?
Are you sure that your server has the minimum php and mysql requierements?
    * PHP version 4.3 or greater
    * MySQL version 4.0 or greater

Because you might have installed PHP but maybee a lower version – that could be potentially a problem.
