• Several weeks ago, WordPress was highly recommended to me by a number of Internet mentors. I downloaded, asked for install4free, was refused and tried to install myself.
Big surprise – it didn’t work. The Install4free guy suggested that I post here. I did, twice.
It’s now almost three weeks later and still no help, no answers, just BS.

Thanks Folks – with support like this, can anyone tell me why I would WANT to continue to try working with this product?
Better still, can anyone direct me to a program that works?

  • Frank, I certainly do not want to argue, and my knowledge of the bug and FastCGI is not that which I could. I simply do not want someone new to WP to stumble into this thread and read a definitive statement. With the literally thousands of blogs running that version with no problem, it’s just not fair to say 2.0.5 does not install properly.

Not sure how pertinent this is, but since the delivery of 2.0.5, I’ve installed roughly 300 copies of WordPress with no problems except on three hosts, online.net, one.com, and yahoo.com, I’ve had to comment-out line 268 in pluggable-functions.php to solve the ‘server error 500’.

Otto42 — Thanks for the tip but the argument that “the bug is in FastCGI” was made the first time I installed version 2.0.5 and I found it had no validity.

I’m not going to argue with you. The fact of the matter is that the bug is in FastCGI. This is not really up for debate.

    See here: https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=36705

The tuneup plugin avoids this bug by changing WordPress to not send any Status: header in that particular case (the case where it sends a Location: header for redirection purposes).

Also note that WordPress version 2.06 (now available for download) should workaround this issue as well. It has a check for FastCGI in the wp_redirect() function, and will avoid sending a Status: header if FastCGI is being used.
