Not sure how it works

I see that there was a previous review asking the same question, the answer was not particularly clear. It says to add ’redirect’ to the custom field. Should there be a redirect option in the drop-down menu in custom fields in the post page? because I don’t see one or are we to add some code/ shortcode to the actual post, a more detailed description of how this works would be very helpful. Screenshots would be nice.
