Not showing Default text in browsers

    Using Mac – Chrome and Safari
    The default text “Select Language” is showing in the pulldown menu
    Using Mac – Firefox
    The default text “Select Language” is NOT showing in the pulldown menu. Instead a single line horizontal bar is going across.

    Using Windows PC – Internet Explorer and Chrome
    The default text “Select Language” is NOT showing in the pulldown menu.
    Using Mac – Firefox
    The default text “Select Language” is NOT showing in the pulldown menu. Instead a single line horizontal bar is showing.

    How can I have “Select Language” default text show up on all browsers?
