• How can I accomplish this? I was looking at another post but, it didn’t seem to have the right code. I am using the latest nightly build 2004-16-06.
I need to disable the children categories from showing up in the parent categories so I can create introduction for them like section headers.
    so:
    Category One – Introduction
    — Child Category One
    — Child Category Two
    — Child Category Three
    Category Two – Introduction
    — Child Category One
    Category Three – Introduction
Etc, how can I accomplish this, disabling children cats from showing in parent cats?

Basically what I am trying to do is for a certain category do this:
    Child Category One
    — Posts In Child Category One (June 17th, 2004)
    — Posts In Child Category Two (June 16th, 2004)
    — Posts In Child Category Three (June 15th, 2004)
    Child Category Two
    — Posts In Child Category One (May 11th, 2004)
    Child Category Three
    — No Posts
You get me know? I just looking to make this as simple as possible…

Many months later – have you found a solution to your problem? I have the exact same problem: when clicking onto a parent category, it displays all children categories with their postings, but it’s not what I want. I want just that one parent category to be shown, w/o children. Is there any way to do this?

To be clear, I have e.g. a category parent with 15 postings and that has a child category with 5 postings. When selecting the parent I only want to see the 15 postings, not 20.

Creating another child and moving the postings from the parent into the child category is an option, but somewhat illogical, because then the parent displays zero postings in the list – IF the parent is supposed to display all child category postings, shouldn’t then the parent amount be the total of all postings, parent plus children?

By default WP doesn’t handle this….. it is going to take a plugin I think to do this…. I know several people (me included) would like to see this…

    Thanks for the info!

Please add me to the list of people who would very much like to see this capability (the parent category NOT showing all the children category POSTS.

A Plug-in to solve this problem would be nice, sorry I’m incapable of writing one.

I suspect that most people would prefer that by default the parent category NOT show all the children category Posts, or at least have a simple check box option for making it so. I humbly suggest that WP consider changing this in the next version.
