• Hello,

Last night some bot hit lots of pages on my site that dont exist. I use the AutOptimize plugin with the criticalcss.com addon.

This plugin creates a cached copy of any new pages / posts that have been viewed for the first time and greatly speeds up my sites loading time.

The bot hit every real page on my site but with a random forward slash added to the end of the URL which serves the original page (mysite.com/careers) instead of a 404 page.

    mysite.com/careers/7/
    mysite.com/careers/65/
    mysite.com/careers/8/
    mysite.com/careers/62/
    mysite.com/careers/66/
    mysite.com/careers/96/
    mysite.com/careers/9/
    etc
    etc

This means every page hit created a brand new cache file and treated it as if it was real. These pages dont exist. My VPNs CPU took a really big hit and cant afford this to happen again.

How do I get wordpress to serve a 404? I’m sure its something in the .htaccess file but cant get my head around it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
