not sending on private posts

  • A certain group of users are able to read and comment on private posts. But they cannot receive notifications on private posts:

    sub_post_status_not_publish — Not applicable; $sub_post->post_status not publish. The post may have been set to a draft (or another unpublished status) before processing began.

    I’ve looked through the settings but see nothing for allowing private published posts to process/send notifications. Is there another way? These posts are privately published and are not drafts.
