  • Personally I’d suggest that you back to GD and push them to sort this out. I’ve seen it happen many times with GD – custom filters on the SMTP server; mail() not configured correctly etc etc.

This could be the case. However when I first set everything up last night it was working – emails were sending fine until this morning after update / backup debacle.

Can you elaborate on this “debacle”?

A Woocommerce update prompted this morning.
Upon trying to install the woo update I got stuck with the “maintenance mode” error screen that won’t allow dashboard or homepage access.

Restored last night’s backup and everything seemed fine – except emails stopped working.

Updated again – received the same error. Renamed .maintenance in the root directory to .bak so it would allow me in. Everything is fine again – woo updated, and everything appears to be working with the exception of email still.

New user registrations don’t go to admin email, nor to the user, and no new order emails go out or are received.

I don’t like the sounds of those 2 failed updates. The odd update glitch every now and then might be acceptable but two in rapid succession is… worrying. Try checking your site’s error logs for messages. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

Was able to pull up the error log in the root FTP directory, to find… an entire notepad file filled with them from Today. all related to streams failing to open in woocommerce.php.

they seem to stem from here :
    /usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php
    &
    include_once(includes/class-wc-customer.php)

I have, literally no idea, what this means.

Can you try deactivating the woocommerce plugin temporarily and seeing if that helps?

deactivating woo does not seem to help.

It has been suggested to me by an IT friend that there may be trouble with the SMTP from google communicating with the settings in wordpress.

I have called godaddy and had them disable the host side completely so that google is the only thing talking to wp.

Which should confirm that wp mail is not working, and it is no longer a host issue.

I’d try to determine first if it’s woo or WP. Click the forgot password link to make sure WP is sending. If it is, and since you had problems updating woo, I’d bet the update didn’t work right.
