• I reorder the menu, save and it changes the menu order when I’m in the admin menu editor settings. When I navigate away from the settings menu the dashboard reverts to default order.

To help figure out what caused this issue, could you please provide some additional information:

    • Does this problem also affect other menu settings, or is it limited to menu order? For example, if you change the title of a menu item or add a new item, are those changes also reverted?
    • Does the menu editor still show your changes, or does it also revert to the default settings when you go back to it?
    • Is this a regular site or a Multisite network? Multisite can sometimes have a database issue that resets menu settings, but on a regular site that’s very uncommon.

    Single site.
The editor will still show my changes on the dashboard when I go back to admin menu editor settings.
I can add and change titles of menus and it has the same behavior of working in the admin menu editor settings but not when I navigate away.

It sounds like there might be a plugin/theme conflict, or, less likely, a caching issue. Are you using any other plugins that customize the contents or appearance of the admin menu? Try temporarily deactivating them to check for conflicts.

Also, if you’re using a custom admin theme, or a theme that includes custom admin styles, try deactivating that as well.

No other plugins that effect the admin menu, unless just being added to the menu is an issue. Ie; I have installed plugins like MailPoet and Elementor. No plugins that customize the contents or appearance. I did change the color scheme through wordpress itself but that’s not a plugin, it’s standard.

I also tried 2 different browsers. I’m not able to check now but I’ll try clearing the cache and retry later.

Just adding items to the menu shouldn’t be a problem. MailPoet and Elementor are both popular plugins, so if there was a conflict like this, we probably would have seen other reports about it.

    A couple more ideas:

    • Check the PHP error log for recent errors and warnings. Usually, an error would have more obvious consequences than just menu settings not being applied, but it might be a good idea to check anyway.
    • Are there any optimization plugins that might affect when or how other plugins are loaded? For example, if there’s a plugin that disables Admin Menu Editor on certain pages, or that removes certain hooks, that might interfere with menu customization.
